This picture posted on our class blog depicts a mother with her children during the US Great Depression. What conversation would this mother have with her children? What "voice" would she use?

  Mother:  "Shh. Don't cry darling. If you cry, then Santa won't come this Christmas."
  Daughter & Son: *Sniff* "Okay Mom... Mom, where's Papa?
  Mother: Mommy told you that your father's gone to look for work, and hopefully bring some food home as well.
